Orchid - Watercolour

Born and brought up in North Dorset, I studied studio pottery at Bournemouth and Poole College of Art, gaining a South Regional Diploma in Design in 1969, a College Diploma in Design and a Licentiateship of Soc. of Designer-Craftsmen in 1970.

Following college I worked for several years as an art technician at a couple of colleges in London. Having moved back to Bournemouth and a spell of working as an art technician at school, I ran my own business teaching Hobby Ceramics. I also started to paint on china and porcelain. I now teach and demonstrate in that field. It was through these two mediums that I discovered my love of painting flowers. I started a watercolour flower painting class in 1999. Following several Adult Education classes and courses run independently, I realised that I most enjoyed the botanical illustration side of flower painting.

I now aim to paint almost every day. I am inspired by natures’ wonderful display as each new season evolves, excited by the flowers, foliage, fruit and vegetables, the shapes and colours.

I have taken part in the biannual Dorset Art Weeks open studio events, had single exhibitions at a local art centre plus local art guild exhibitions, winning best watercolour in 2007. I have had my work hung in many specialist society exhibitions both in London with the Society of Botanical Artists and the Society of Women Artists and in the south with the Society of Floral Painters and the South West Society of Botanical Artists.
